Holy thread resurrection!
Sorry, it's because I heard Jelly Roll, & ’Chevrolet', essentially as a reworking of 'Drift Away'

The Original (but written by ’The Boss’)

As DE tells the story, he was at a Springsteen gig in 1980 (The River tour???), & was told that Springsteen wanted to see him
After the social niceties were exchanged, Bruce told DE he had wrote a song for 'The River' LP, but it wasn't used
He offered it to DE, who recorded it for 'DE 7th'

Springsteen didn't release his own song until 2003, & again in 2015, in a box-set

And, together, at a 1982 Concert
The audio is off, perhaps the result of the original cassette tape stretching/deteriorating over the years?

Heart Stairway To Heaven
No pressure then when the remaining members of Led Zeppelin are watching you cover one of their most famous songs, Jason Bonham on drums, and I think we can safely say Jimmy Page enjoyed the solo!

You can tell they hadn't done their research very well, the guitar solo was done by Jimmy on his Telecaster, specifically on the Tele that Jeff Beck gave to him, Fender did a limited edition replica a few years ago..............The Dragon Telecaster

Doesn't really matter as a Tele can sound not too dissimilar to Les Paul, it was a tribute concert to Led Zep anyway

Cover versions that are better than the original are many, here's a few for you:

Devo's Satisfaction
Blancmange's The Day Before You Came
Laibach's Life is Life
Pet Shop Boy's Always on my Mind
Bill Frisell's I Heard It Through The Grapevine
David Bowie's Sorrow
Any cover of a Bob Dylan song.

Devo's Satisfaction is the greatest example of this phenomenon.
