Sadder still… I ran an Indian Enfield for about 17 years. It barely required maintenance and always started and ran perfectly, well perfectly for a fifties design with an engine laid out in 1932. Anyway, it outlived the Kawasaki Ninja that replaced it. The Ninja was replaced by a 500 Piaggio that cost more to service once than the Enfield cost over its entire life with me. Thirty some odd bikes later it was possibly the lowest performing thing I ever owned, but was the most reliable and cheapest to run. I sold it on with 76000 on the clock and last I heard it was still going.

I don’t laugh at the Indian stuff. It’s simple, built to last and all of the bugs were worked out long before we were even born.

Just don’t ask more of them than they were designed to give.
