We went to see Castlerigg stone circle yesterday. 500 years or so older and better views.

The reason they don't let you touch the stones at Stonehenge is that they're made out of fibreglass 🤫

I give you the Rollright stones & Whispering Knights, I believe the Knights may predate Castlerigg (although who the heck really knows)

It was drizzly, and the ungrateful bunch said it barely worth cycling up the hill to see them

I’m sure there used to be a local foot race back in the 80’s that went very close to the stones and Porton Down. Having said that, I may be conflating a couple of separate events.

My standard Salisbury loop uses the Winterslow Rd, which is the Crown road that passes through the Porton Down site. It's not somewhere that encourages lingering, either on foot or by bike!

Thinking of doing another club ride to see dawn over some old stones. With Solstice being June 20th this year, information is a bit confoozing ...

Anyone know which morning the Druids et al will celebrate the sunrise? Fri 21st or Thu 20th?

(Solstice is actually Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 20:50 UTC , according to t'web.)

Either way, they’ll have missed the earliest sunrise on the 17th.
