Cyclist tracking
"MOSMAN Council has heard about a new bicycle helmet concept a councillor says will pave the way for commuter cyclists to be registered and insured.

The Smart hat designer presented his concept design to the Mosman Council on Tuesday night.

While council members agreed it was a good idea, they told the designer a council meeting was not an appropriate forum for him.

The motion, put forward by Councillor Simon Menzies, was then amended to support concepts generally which aim to improve cyclist safety.

Before the meeting, Cr Simon Menzies said the helmet was not only a solution to improving cyclist safety and decrease the number of collisions but would also provide a solution for commuter cyclists to be registered and able to showcase their registration number."

'The smart helmet, still in the conceptual stage, would have indicators controlled by a Bluetooth system on the handlebars, as well as a photo sensor to turn on head and tail lights and a small warning speaker when it rides to close to pedestrians'.

Edited to underline what s below.
Bear in mind that this is an Australian story, where helmets are compulsory. This is more about the inbuilt systems included in the design

Talk about overcomplicating cycling, I wonder how long the battery will last?. They'll be mandating MOTORS next to speed cyclists up and then charge the batteries..

Can imagine this causing far problems than it would solve...what the warning would say to the pedestrians...what happens when you lose connection and your indicator stops working without telling you...many system recalls imagined...chaos...carnage...people drenched in blood and tyre tracks moaning...I'll just say no.

It's not April, but, it is Australia, so almost as insane. Why make life easy, when you can make it difficult? Judging by some cyclists I see, the ped warning could be, 'get out of the xxxxxxx way!'

What's dumb is the concept that brought forth the design.
How many times do we see posts on here about how a driver was on his/her mobile at the time. This thing requires one! Who'll be supplying them and paying the phone bill?
Part of the idea is that your movements can be tracked whilst in use.
