Hi All

I'm in the market for a new bike that will be used for my daily commute (~10 mile round trip). After doing a bit of reading it seems that a hybrid would be an ideal choice as the roads are pretty shoddy.

Can anyone make any recommendations in terms of makes/models? I'm not after anything fancy just a reliable work horse that will get me from A to B without breaking every 5 seconds.

Cheers

Budget?
Avoid suspension. If you want a solid inexpensive flatbar, the Carrera subway from halfords fits the bill, sub £200 (promotion at mo). No suspension, not needed for roads, but decent fat tyres for comfort

Or better spec http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/hybrid-bikes/carrera-subway-2-hybrid-bike-2015

Join British cycling, get other benefits and 10 % off everything at halfords. Around £35 a year membership

+1 Budget. Consider the Cannondale Bad Boy range if you are happy to spend more than Carerra money.

My Cannondale Street Ultra (discontinued) is my do anything bombproof utility workhorse, never lets me down.

I'd also suggest Edinburgh Bikes for solid good reliable VFM Revolution Brand bikes, then Decathlon.

You may also want to consider hub gears and lighting for ease and relatively maintenance free riding.

Or maybe a fixie if you live in a suitable terrain

Don't discount a cyclo cross either, that may fit your bill too.
