I have new bike on order from Ribble. The forks in the photo look odd. Are they back to front or is this something to do with disc brakes?

No, they are correct. I don't know why they are shaped that way, but someone clever has clearly found that it works.

It does literally look like they're on back to front; though presumably a close inspection of the aero profile might reveal some design intentions - but it could be just 'hey lets be different'...

I saw forks like that on a bike at the Newport Velodrome bike show a few years ago so nothing new. Looks ugly to my eye.

It's a solid frame, sold as a CX. It has full mudguard mounts, loads of tyre clearance, I had 40mm tyres at one point.
It didn't have rack mounts under the seat collar, but that is easily remedied.
If you run tyres under 28mm then I would describe the ride as quite hard, the geometry is great for all surfaces but it didn't feel like my Scott CR1, it was much slower in response
