I imagine Nicola Sturgeon will be announcing a Scottish State Funeral.
They must have kept the tartan industry in business for years.
In the early 1970s Loyalist terror gangs wore strips of tartan on their clothes to show what gang they belonged to. All that stopped when teenage girls started doing the same thing.

Sad news
Sister and I used to watch Shang a Lang on TV
Will listen to my Rollers tunes next time I’m out on the MTB

Looking back at my school days, for the girls it was the Rollers, Donny Osmond and David Cassidy. Any of the lads would feign disgust at the mere mention of course. I think the Rollers, along with the Beatles, were the only bands that had a 'mania' type following, and both could also be described as 'boy bands' - albeit in different leagues. Anyways, sad to hear of this news.

those teenage girls can be pretty terrifying when off on one. They couldn't take the competition? Did they adopt Rubette caps instead?

Apart from Les, who ran over and killed a pensioner in 1975 in his Ford Mustang.
And Derek Longmuir, who was convicted of possessing child porn.
And their manager Tam Paton, convicted of gross indecency with teenage boys.
Don't think I knew any of that.

I saw the Rubettes. Im beginning to sound sad now. ^_^ They still play to massive audiences in Germany.
I'm shocked.
I did find them kind of amusing though.
Two thoughts.
The germans do seem to take to british pop of all periods to heart. Always lots of german TV coverage of everyone on youtube and old compilations.
I well remember seeing a doc about the unfortunate munich olympics and the terror attack. The everyday security staff seemed to be kitted out like the Rubettes. Remember wondering if this was an extreme step to try to banish unfortunate historical memories.

Shame they were ripped off by their manager and saw barely any of the money from what were huge hits at a time when people paid a lot of cash for records.

The 70s music industry was a glorious time for the pretty ruthless exploitation of artists by spivs and thieves. Bowie, Queen and Blondie were all ripped off.

Yes, many bands saw very little of the money they generated. Odd to think that you had to sell a heck of a lot of records in the '70's to get a number one, whereas today the big money is in touring and merchandise.

I also find it odd that both the Rollers and Marc Bolan had 30 minute TV shows on ITV in the kids slot, with some really big stars on like Bowie. Likewise, Get It Together with Roy North on Granada - kids music show that had both big stars and punk bands on.

I was never a Rollers fan as a child, but will confess that the first record I bought with my own money was My Coo Cha Choo by Alvin Stardust.
