Hi guys! I've spent a lot of time researching the pros/cons of Chinese deep-rim carbon wheels, so this is not another post about whether they're a good idea or not.

Referencing the link below, I'd be keen to know how bad the hubs are, how important this component is compared with all the other components that make up a wheelset, and whether it'd be easy enough for me to upgrade the hubs in the future.

Many thanks in advance.

Buy cheap buy twice as a wise man once said.

I know so much of what we buy is from the Far East anyway, but at least you have the support of a UK retailer/supplier when you buy from within your own country, so give serious thought to the warranty implications. If something goes wrong then chances are you'll be left with shipping costs two ways, which to China will effectively write the wheels off.

You pays your money you take chance I guess.

Might be an idea to post up what you want the wheels for, that way some learned CC'ers such as @Mr Haematocrit can inform you of the real time pros and cons of such a wheel choice.

I've no personal experience, but Novatec hubs have a good reputation.

May also be worth a look at http://www.planetx.co.uk/c/q/wheels for carbon wheels.

Yay. Another 'I don't want to pay market value for things I want' thread.

Define 'market value'. The internet's changed the way we buy and sell things. We have a choice to buy direct from China (or wherever) or buy locally - advantages and disadvantages to both.

You can have the very best Chocolate spoon available and its still not suitable for stirring a boiling pan.

A quality wheel set is a sum of all its components, not just a few. You require decent rims, spokes, hubs, and a decent builder to name but a few.
you state you have researched into Chinese wheels but I am curious if you have ridden any?
I am personally of the opinion that some are damn right dangerous and scary in crosswinds with unpredictable handling. If you are riding such wheels on the road you will be unecessarily increasing risks IMHO.

The expresson champagne idea's and lemonade pockets springs to mind. If you cut costs and quality on hubs or anywhere else on the wheel set you will ultimately end up with an inferior product no matter where the wheels come from.

Light
Cheap
Strong...... Pick two

Personally I would get a hand built wheel. There are people on this forum offering to build wheels for free. Spend your money on quality components and end up with a really solid wheel set with a reasonable resale value
