Cyclist critical after crash - Peebles A72

An elderly cyclist is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash on the A72 near Peebles.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision which involved his bicycle and a Volvo car.

The accident happened on the Peebles to Glentress Road near to Eshiels Mill at about 18:00 on Monday.

The cyclist suffered serious injuries and was transferred to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The road was closed for six hours for investigations.​

Renewed appeal from police regarding this collision.

Police have issued a renewed appeal for information two weeks after a crash near Peebles which left a 75-year-old cyclist in a critical condition.

Carl Lane suffered serious spinal injuries in the collision with a Volvo car on the A72 on 27 October.

He is receiving specialist treatment in the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.

Sgt Neil Inglis said police were still trying to "establish exactly" why the collision had taken place.

He added: "I would ask any motorists or cyclists who were on the A72 on Monday evening and saw either of the vehicles involved prior to the collision to contact police immediately."​
