Getting old but not past it

I went on a 25 mile ride today although I intended to do more. My problem is that I left home on a empty stomach and yes! .... you guessed it, I run out of gas. Slopes I normally do ok, I struggled. One of them I even had to walk it as I had no energy left. So I turned round early to get back home, exhausted. It took me a while to recover too. So the moral of this story is: never go on a ride on an empty stomach!

I did this yesterday. Had breakfast and a light but early lunch then went out for a 30 mile ride later in the afternoon. I was fine on the ride til the last mile, but put it down to pushing hard in the sun. Put the bike away, got changed and felt awful. Barely managed to walk the dog and spent the rest of the evening trying to work out what was wrong. Initially thought it was dehydration or heat stroke but none of the symptoms fit. It wasn't until I had my tea and started to feel better than the penny dropped, but it took until mid morning today to get rid of the jelly legs.
