Yes. I will often do a section of my usual commute during my lunch break when working from home. I’ve never gone all the way there in case somebody sees me and asks me to come in and do some work!

I used to regularly go for morning rides before I started working from home for the day. At the moment I favour lunch rides, but given that the days are long and I have to get up early at least once fortnight to cycle in to the office, I'm thinking of switching from lunch rides to morning rides...at least while it's light. That way I get my lunch hour at home instead of on the bike and my wake up times are consistent. Starting the work day with a ride/some exercise really does help though, yes.

Oh! Another thing to add - at some point during the pandemic, probably during the winter, I was regularly doing forty minutes on zwift with someone else from the local cycling club (LBRCC) every weekday. I really don't enjoy Zwift but knowing that he was expecting me to turn up too (virtually) really motivated me to get on the bike. I must have done that for a good 2-3 months I think. No worrying about the weather and it kept my fitness and spirits up. Cheers Andrew!

I rarely WFH these days, and so treat them as bonus days off and don't ride. But I did during covid esp the first lockdown when it was far too easy to just keep checking one more email. A hard deadline of 5pm and I'd get changed and do a 12mile loop on the bike as my 'commute' /exercise and then work was done for the day, mind cleared and I could enjoy the evening.

I do a short 12 mile ride when WFH. Usually first thing depending on weather and meetings. I find it so important to get out and clear my head before sitting in front of a laptop.

During the pandemic when we were forced to do 3 days a week WFH, I made a point of doing a 10 mile loop before and after work to replace the office commute.

I wouldn't call them "faux commutes" but I usually do go out for an after work ride on 2 of the 3 days I WFH (Thursday I do Morris Dancing and don't have time for a ride).

I'd like to read more thoughts on which time (before, lunch, after,. ..) do people find the best time?
For me, I really need to get straight up and go first thing. I work flexibly so as long as I don’t have an 8:30 meeting I’m usually back and sorted. I also get a good nature fix early in the day. If that’s not feasible I find a slot straight after lunch, so already broken concentration and lethargic after eating. I write better late morning and late afternoon so I try and keep those for creative work.

Anyone else who works from home taken to a daily ride or faux commute to boost their activity levels?

Yes, very often. Usually along with mates who are commuting in and as far along the normal commute as the cafe we frequent for coffee and 20 minutes of talking s***e before cycling home again. Means I get out of the house and real life company outside of the family when WFH.
