Oscar Freire (photo) Friday during the descent of the col du Platzerwasel with an airgun shelled and its upper edge. Rabo team doctor Dion van Bommel after arrival at the hotel a lead ball from the leg of the Spanish sprinter removed. The doctor expects that Freire Saturday just the start of the fourteenth trip appears and thinks that the wound will hamper him much. The Raboploeg Friday will still return to the shelling of the French gendarmerie, who is now the Tour Organization ASO was end.

But the shelling was not without any danger sign Van Bommel. "In the femur can such a little ball damage, but if Oscar such a projectile in a given view, he is blind. I think this is outrageous and I've never experienced in my career."
The team responded with fierce indignation. Frans Maassen team Freire was when the doctor removed the ball. "A truly incredible event. I hope they can resolve the matter, because this is something that very soon the head must be pressed", Maassen replied. The Tour Organization ASO has arranged for the French investigation Friday the Raboploeg in the hotel visit. There will be an indictment. Said in the voice of Yoda= V funny.

A shocking story though if true...Never good if people are going around shooting cyclists. I hope that doesn't catch on in Birmingham

Freire was interviewed on Dutch TV last night. Said he felt a sharp pain in his leg and then heard the gun shot. It wasn't until he was having a shower after the race that he realised the pellet was still stuck in his leg!

It's been reported t'other way around here! That is, he heard three shots and then felt the sting. Grassy knoll conspiracy time!

Read what TVNZ have to say about it....
New Tour fashion accessory!

In a bizarre event even for the Tour, it appears things have moved on since Eddy Merckx's punch to the kidney's in the 75 edition. It would look like we had some Tuskan Raiders camped out in the hills of today's stage, taking aim at Kiwi Julian Dean's finger and ex-world champ Oscar Freire's thigh as they went past. As if riding 200km of bumps in the rain wasn't hard enough, now the peloton will be wearing kevlar vests to match their carbon fibre frames!

It's actually worth reading the link for the 'green handbags' and 'laughing group' references!

Interview here, the bits with Freire in English, the bits with the Rabobank doctor in Dutch. The doctor says Freire was having a shower and started shouting he had been shot. He thought Freire was joking but went in to see him and removed the pellet from his leg under the shower.
