I know it's a long way off, but getting tickets for the ferry was a bit of a scramble last year.

So................this is the deal

We'll leave Hyde Park Corner at midnight on Thursday 22 May. We'll ride south, have coffee at Gatwick at about 3am, then go on to Newhaven for breakfast. Some people will go home from Newhaven, but some of us will take the 10am ferry to Dieppe - that's 10am on 23rd May.

We'll arrive in Dieppe mid-afternoon. Some people might want to stay in Dieppe, but most of us will cycle on for a little way, stop for refreshments at Torcy-le-Grand and stay overnight somewhere around Saint-Saens. The custom is to check in to our chambre d'hotes or whatever and then go down to the centre of Saint-Saens for a pasta meal.

We'll set off early on Saturday morning, stop at a boulangerie in Morgny for coffee and baguettes and then go on to somewhere like Marines for a spot of lunch. From there it's not too far to Pontoise, and, after a bit of shimmying, we'll find ourselves on a quietish road just north of the main drag for the last fifteen miles in to Paris. We go to our hotels or hostels. Last year we went out to dinner together beside a canal, which was very pleasant.

Susie and I will spend the night in Paris, take the train back to Dieppe and take the afternoon ferry to Newhaven, and thence the train to London. So our return ticket is for the afternoon sailing on the 25th May.

Ferry - DFDS http://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/ferry-routes/travel-information/timetables/

Distances
London to Newhaven about 60 miles
Dieppe to Saint-Saens about 25 miles
Saint Saens to Paris about 83 miles

The route will be pretty much the same as last year, bar a bit of a swerve near Marines. I'm hoping that this year's edition won't be so fearsomely hot!

After Dell optimised the last part of the route into Paris so brilliantly last year, I'm wondering if there may be an alternative to the D915 between Gisors and Pontoise (I'm talking about this bit: http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=uwlcmmdjhubmvbve) Admittedly, that's the most direct route, but it's also rather busy with fast going cars.

This may be an alternative: http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=lygrkuzudttzbznp

It's about 5 miles longer (27.5mi) than the old route (23mi) and - at least according to the altitude data on GPSies - not significantly more hilly.

Hmm, can I get a pass for this? @Davywalnuts you coming along?

EDIT: Pass denied for fairly obvious reasons really. I'll probably ride to Newhaven and back though.

Is it just me or is the 10:00 sailing on Friday 23/05 sold out for bicycles already?
Not just you. Nothing available so it looks like Bromptons only if you've not booked already.

Or borrow a white van and go as a group. Might well be cheaper ...

Booked (return Monday evening).
Anybody want to share a room at The Chateau?

I'm thinking of just doing the pretty bit and hanging a right at Gisors and doing a country tour down the River Eure and back via Rouen. Anybody interested?

I've booked two cycling spaces last week although we'll again be on the Brompton s(getting off the ferry as a foot passenger took ages last year, because we had to wait for the luggage/bikes, which we were forced to check in). But if there is a lack of bike spaces, I'm happy to give those to bike spaces to someone travelling with "real" bikes and foot passenger tickets. (You might have to carry our Bromptons on board though)

We'll take the Eurostar on Sunday afternoon by the way.

In Paris, we're once again booked into this nice little hotel in the Marais: http://hoteljeannedarc.com/?lang=en

A double costs 110 Euros (you have to book by email, the website only offers 3-night-stays...) The hotel has limited indoor spaces for "real" bikes, but I would mention this when booking.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Apparently I'm in (it happened while I was in a meeting). I hope I won't be alone.

What's the top tip for Saint-Saens? (insert your own musical joke to taste)

Sorry, already booked in south Wales that weekend. Shame, as I could have told you all about the recce.
I might be able to ride to Newhaven though, then home.

Katharina and I am booked in the Abbaye (room Adrienne De Houdetot). Marguerite De Moy was already taken this morning, Marie De Cassagnet and Anne Le Tellier still available. The place where Dell stayed last year is apparently already gone as well. So making a reservation quickly probably won't harm.
