GPS tracking anti theft devices?

Seeing as insurance for our bikes is now over £300 pa (ETA) or has a £500 excess per claim (current household insurance theft cover); Kryptonite's 'guarantee' if your bike is stolen using their lock is only valid for one year (when last checked); and at least one of our bikes is unique enough that it might be targeted specifically by a 'steal to order' gang (recently stolen a kids' adapted disabled trike nearby!) I'm wondering about a GPS tracker anti theft device.

Anyone have one and anything to be aware of? Looks like c. £100 upfront but I presume there's an additional small monthly payment for the sim card connectivity.

Would it be cheaper to buy a new Kryptonite every year?

I had been thinking about this (for a few years) and wondered if anybody knows how technology is progressing with this. Would it be possible to have a GPS tracking device inside the frame which reported it's location once a day, say at 3am in the UK (thinking about battery power) and allowed the police to pounce when ready???
