So I've Down loaded some cycle routes and they are gpx files. Now being new to this I don't know what's best to open the routes up and follow them on for my android phone (galaxy s5) any help welcome.

Thank you

I have played about with this recently. The best software for me is Viewranger using free downloadable maps. (Open cycle map is free, although you pay for more detailed maps). Map my ride would be good as well although I hink you would need to cache the map prior to going out . You can also import gpx files into Strava and also Endomondo.

And Garmin, Ride with GPS and almost any other site you want to use.

Orux maps is 2nd to none.

Just put the gpx files in its tracks directory that shows up in Settings.
Click Load File from the road iconed menu and off you go. It even seems to ask if you want navigation.
I've not used Viewranger but Orux is/was pretty much ad free.
