I just sent this to the guy:

I am very concerned about the bike you are selling. It looks very dangerous.
The stem has been modified (and not by a professional or anyone who knows about bikes), The brakes are different for the type of bike (MTB on rear and road on front), and the frame is a road bike but the bars are just stupid.
Who would buy this bike I dont know but it definately wont be me.

It does mention that the stem has been adapted due to weak wrists. Sounds like the seller might have an injury or disability. Mind, the description includes 'Serfas dual density gel HSS Hybrid suspension system anatomic pressure release', and the bike doesn't seem to have suspension.

Unless I'm missing something.

It is local to me, seen it trying to be sold for weeks now

With a starting bid of £300 it could remain on sale for a whole lot of weeks to come.
Paid £800 for it new? Yeh right. It certainly wasn't like that when it was new.

This is what it looked like when new, and this years version retails for about £427.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

Someone's replaced the alloy forks with carbon ones, without cutting down the steerer tube. They've then stacked a steerer extender on top: http://www.parker-international.co....rrer=froogle&gclid=CLuR-YbTwbkCFebJtAodPRMApA. All of that gives a very upright riding position - presumably specifically for the seller.

The carbon fork doesn't have the necessary fixings for the front cantilever - hence the Ultegra brake. IIRC running road brakes through mountain bike levers is undesirable but not unsafe. The "suspension system" is a marketing gimmick for the saddle: http://www.amazon.com/Serfas-Suspen...000UO6LJA/ref=pd_sim_sg_3/176-0451741-7392953

I can well believe that it cost £800 new - £500 for the bike, plus £300 for the conversion.

Weirdly, if you scroll through the photos, one of them (the one showing the brakes / bars) shows the bike with a massive padded saddle on, and the rest of the pics have a slim Selle Italia saddle.

Clears up a few things, cheers.
