Rain. The reason I've bought Ortliebs.....

I will be travelling up straight from work, so have 4 stacks of clothing/kit planned out:

1. Basics: shorts, long sleeve base layer, gillet, socks, wool cap
ADD
2. Wet/Warmish gear to add to basics: thin merino leg warmers, waterproof trousers, short sleeve jersey, waterproof jacket, waterproof gloves, waterproof overshoes
OR
3. Cold/Dry gear to add to basics: heavier merino leg warmers, long sleeve merino jersey, long bibs to over over all that, then softshell jacket, warm gloves, warm overshoes
THEN
4. Fresh & clean for Saturday: base layer, shorts, socks.

So I'll be wearing set 1 plus part/all of either set 2 or set 3, with set 4 in my saddlebag.

The only difficulty will be choosing between set 2 or set 3, at 6.30am Friday morning (or more realistically, at 6.30am Thursday morning to take some of it into work in advance).

I mean, I should be able to trust the weather forecast to make a decision like this more than 24 hours in advance, right?

Ah, @StuAff got in before me.
The fabulous Michelle Gomez in her role as Missy in Doctor Who.
Couldn't agree more. My sig. was the first words she uttered in Dr. Who.
Off topic - we've had some great Masters over the years, but none has captured the role in such style as Missy. John Simm came close a few years back.

An update or two:-
  • The start point is going to be Albert Square, in front of the town hall. This is my suggested route* from Piccadilly Station:- https://goo.gl/maps/sQguroeAch82
  • Helen and I are meeting GordonP at Piccadilly at 22.00 and we'll probably go to the Mayfield pub there (upstairs on the mezzanine) for a drink and set off to the start at 23.15.
  • For earlier arrivals, either meet us at the Mayfield or try Rain Bar (http://www.rain-bar.co.uk/); it's on the route above. Park your bikes around the back but be aware that they stop serving food at 20.00.
  • We'll be having breakfast in Wetherspoons, Lancaster. This one:- http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-sir-richard-owen#
  • The forecast, currently, is looking good.
More if I think of it.

Please read my previous posting following the reccy (lights/batteries/clothes).

*Google Maps won't let me show the left-right off Station Approach towards Piccadilly Gardens but you can do it safely and legally. You'll cross the tram-lines twice on the route but the road takes you over them at right angles.

Good stuff!
Andrew, I may need to make a late bailout call on this. Long story but my upper back went out of alignment on Saturday, since when I've not been able to turn my head properly, nerve tingles/numbness down one arm. Seeing my osteopath before work Thursday morning. It's very possible that I'll be right as rain by Friday. But I've been off the bike meanwhile which has dented my confidence a bit leading up to the FNRttC. Fingers crossed I'll be able to make it. I'll keep you posted.

I'll probably join you there. Thought I was on the same train as Gordon, it's not but still gets in at 2200 (from Mordor Central). Just a reminder that my train south leaves Lancaster 9.56- should be OK to get breakfast first unless we're really, really slow..

Excellent. I was a student at Lancaster and am looking forward to re-acquainting myself with its fine selection of hostelries. I get to Piccadilly at 2300 so will look out for you in the pub.
