Monsal Trail - Wye Dale to Bakewell

I started off at Ladybower Reservoir, rode through Bamford to Tideswell, Millers Dale, Blackwell and picked up the Monsal Trail via the Pennine Bridleway then back through Hassop, Calver, Grindleford, Hathersage, Bamford. Total 34 Miles, not a bad ride.

The tunnels are a nice ride, very atmospheric, was very busy when we did it a couple of months ago though.

I guess it'll get a bit quieter - there's a twenty year backlog of people wanting to have their first ride through there - myself included! Trying to sort out a ride on the trail with my brother in law at the moment, and really looking forward to it...

Ah! Memories galore, university days, magical place names, the Monsal Pub & steam trains, well dressings & the Stoney Middleton Folk Club on Friday nights (RIP). Always walked round there - never cycled - yet.

It was really quiet on Monday night..probably passed about 20 walkers and 20 cyclists each way - plenty of room to get a good speed up through the tunnels

Apparently the tunnel lights get turned off after dusk so I'm off back in a couple of months for an evening ride, making sure I have the magicshine fully charged

I'm going to have a spin up Winnats Pass on Sunday and take the bridleway to Hollins Cross then down into Edale and back round to Hope.

Excellent trip but there maybe a few walkers tho'! There are so many footpaths around there.

When I was on Win Hill, sometime last year, walking towards Wooler Knoll, I noticed quite a few bikers coming up the track from Hope. Maybe they were heading for Woodlands Valley and eventually to Derwent Reservoir?
