Manslaughter, not death by dangerous driving
“If a person causes someone’s death by behaving in a grossly negligent or reckless manner anywhere else in society, they are charged with manslaughter. If that happens on the road, however, they are not; they are charged with death by dangerous driving. There is no legal reason why that should be.”

Although he's right of course, the issue was supposed to be that juries were loathed to convict for manslaughter for a mere road "accident", on the basis we all make mistakes driving.

But it did strike me as grossly unjust when after the Lyme bay canoe deaths, the organisers got 5 years for manslaughter on fairly flimsy grounds compared to various motoring deaths

one person, MD of the oraisign company for Corporate Manslaughter, three years reduced to two on appeal

Flimsy?
"The court heard that the centre allowed two inexperienced and unqualified instructors to take a novice party on to the open sea without flares or a two-way radio; when the canoes began to capsize in strong winds, the teenagers were not told to inflate their lifejackets"
