Ok, anyone ridden in southern Italy?

We've decided Morocco risks being very hot, so have shifted our plans to Puglia - a week touring in the 'heel' of Italy. Has anyone cycled round there and can offer any handy hints & tips? (I'm going to post this in Touring & Expedition as well, but I thought it was worth posting it here too.)

Agree. I did a cycling hol to Sicily last year. Early October....it was more than 30 degrees every afternoon

Temperature varies enormously in Morocco. Marrakesh is 40ish in August, Tangier was 25 when we were there a couple of weeks ago.

My memories: it can get very hot, over 40 C in summer. There's lots of lumpy ups and downs. If you decide to visit the hilltop medieval villages, you'll spend all day going up hills. Traffic is light and respectful. There is little shade, whether going uphill or not. Good food, poor beer.

Thanks all. I agree the temperature is a risk - I guess that's true anywhere south in September. The quoted average is about 24-ish, which would be good. Anything over 30 and I think we'll be in trouble. Especially my friend - he's a viking, and doesn't really do tropical.
