I hope anyone that watched today had a great day - ours was absolutely amazing. We cycled to Holmfirth, spent a while there then climbed a Holme Moss and followed the route back to 'cote de Midhopestones' where we settled down to watch.

The road is narrow and ramps from 9 to 15% near the top! I was massively impressed at how the pros rode so closely on such a tight road. It made for some good pics though, I decided against taking my camera so just snapped loads on my phone (without looking at it!) whilst shouting on the riders.

A few of the decent ones:

View from the bottom of Holme Moss, this was around 10am and there were thousands of people walking, cycling and pushing their bikes up. Amazingly we managed to do the ascent without having to stop for the crowds, it was pretty slow though!

At that point I stuck the phone away to cheer them on, these are from the following groups..

What an awesome day, I even managed to get in nearly 70 miles and 7,000ft of climbing myself.

There were a few victims... Yes the hills are not long, but they are steep and many... How the race got shattered today after Holme Moss was amazing for us UK riders. Short sharp shocks that kill us, kill the pros.

It did make me feel better that the roads I ride regularly made some of the pros struggle too! We heard there was a lone AG2R rider out front on the Woodhead, the peloton caught him around 200m before they got to us so the front group were in full on rampage mode and really stretched out the gaps.

Some of the spectators we spoke to who came from elsewhere and brought their bikes couldn't believe how hilly it was, we saw a LOT of people off and pushing over the weekend.

Nice, but I have 2 questions ...
  1. Did you deliberately make it slo-mo in the mid-section of the video? The start and finish for me were at normal speed, but most of it was at about half speed.
  2. Why didn't you hold the phone in landscape orientation when recording the video? It looks weird in portrait mode.
