A 74-year old man has died after being involved in a collision with a car in Frithville, near Boston Lincolnshire on Thursday afternoon.

The crash took place at about 2:20pm near to the junction of West Fen Drainside and Brothertoft Road. The rider from Boston was hit by a red Renault Megane driven by an 88-year-old Boston woman.

The cyclist was taken to Pilgrim hospital, Boston, but later died as a result of serious injuries.

Police were unable to release the man's name yesterday as they were still in the process of identifying and informing the relatives and friends of the deceased.

Sgt Chris Dennett of the Collision Investigation Team is leading the investigation. He said: “We are trying to piece together exactly what happened. I am looking for anyone who saw the collision. Also witnesses who saw the cyclist pedalling along or walking and pushing his bike or the red Renault Megane being driven along prior to the crash.”

Anyone with information should call the non-emergency 101 number or the Collision Witness Hotline 01522 558855 and quote incident number 240 of April 23.

And then just to make matters worse

“Despicable” burglars have broken into the home of the elderly man who was killed in a collision in Frithville.

The 74-year-old, who has not yet been named as formal identification procedures have not bee completed, died from his injuries at Pilgrim Hospital following the collision at West Fen Drainside last Thursday afternoon.

The burglary at his home in Tennyson Close was reported at 9am this morning, Saturday April 25, after the glass in the front door was found smashed.

DC Sue-Ellen Wilson, from Boston CID, said: “All burglaries are abhorrent but to break into the home of someone who recently died in very tragic circumstances is a despicable crime indeed.

“ Extra police patrols are being carried out in the area and I am urging anyone with information about the burglary to contact me or approach one of the local officers.

Alternatively, you can provide information in complete anonymity by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

The death from the accident is very sad but the breaking into the man's house is despicable. I hope they catch the thief and he resists and then accidentally get's a black eye or similar.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Extra police patrols in the area, eh? So which area is being deprived of policing cover to provide that?

As for the rest of it, terrible news when a 2 wheels brother died, but for Johnny Scumbag to do a dead man's house is beneath contempt, an extra kick in the nuts for the guys family.

I am slightly puzzled how the burgler knew it was his house if the police had not released his details?
I'm sure if they do find the scumbag who killed him he /she/it will get a nasty slap on the wrist and told not to kill anyone again - please-

Read the story.

The person who killed the cyclist is an 88-year-old woman from Boston who is not being sought because the coppers know who she is.

As regards the burglary, Boston is a small town so billy burglar may well have known the cyclist's house would be empty.

Or he may not have cared.
