A number a years ago a largely traffic free cycle route was established around Preston in Lancashire, National Cycle Route 622, also known as the 'Guild Wheel', which is used by an estimated 100,000 cyclists a year:

Currently there are a number of proposals to build new houses on or near the Guild Wheel, and contractors are planning on using parts of the 'low traffic' zones as access routes for construction traffic.

If you would like to sign a petition to urge Lancashire County Council and Preston City Council to resist this, please feel free to sign the petition below.

I'm not normally an activist, but I do love riding this route with my partner and little boy, in the knowledge that it is probably as safe a route as we could hope for in this day and age...

Playing devils advocate - the posh people of Durton Lane are incredibly upset about 118 new houses being built and that the construction traffic for these few houses will blight the wheel forever?

To put this in context my local authority - population ~140K is planning on building 20,000 new homes over the next few years with that figure rising continually as other nearby authorities say they have no space.
