Has anyone got any experience of this bike and/or any of its cousins.
I quite fancy the idea of just having the 8 gears but wonder if the 44 chainring is fast enough on the flats/downhill parts of a journey.
I communte about 15 miles round trip daily.

I have one, it's my favorite bike. Mine is a 2007 Courier Race model. Note, they seem to have cheapened it since then with generic wheels and lower end tyres.

Yes, it has a 44T front ring, which on mine, gave around a 108 inch gear.

Mine's light, simple, fast and more comfortable than my roadie.

There's one of these for sale for £75 on Edinburgh gumtree, dunno if it's still there but it's a couple of years old so a good service and you'd have a decent bike. I like the simple idea of the hub gears too.

A ratio of 44/12 (3.5) (I've no idea what the hub gear gives) pedalled at 110rpm
will give 3.5*110 = 385 wheel revoultions per min. 23100/hour

If the wheels 2095mm circumfrence (700x23mm tyres) then you'd go 2.095*23100 m/hour = 48390m/hour or 48km/hr that about 30mph.

I think that should be more than quick enough for the flat sections of your commute and you'll just have to be content with free-wheeling a little on the very steep downhills.
