Hi, I am trying to find a good pair of shoes to wear with my toe clips, I know normal road shoes are for clipless only and MTB seem too chunky. I currently wear my NB Minimus but these are too flexible, any suggestions?

How about shot-putting shoes, like Puma Kugels ?

I have found a pair of vintage shoes! this took some searching to get my size 42 but it was either that or buy a new pair of Vittoria which was not going to happen given the prices.

What sort of money do you want to pay?

The stelvios above are one of the cheapest, cost wise. You can get shoes for clips from Vittoria, Giro, Dromarti and Quoc Pham to name a few. None of them come cheaply though.

with toe clips you can wear any old shoes - that's the point surely, though smooth soles are easier / safer.to.slip in and out. If you're going to bother with special shoes then you might as well go clipless - as the need for the special shoes is the the only real disadvantage of clipless.

I used to wear a pair of oxfords as my best shoes for cycling, though my brogues were also OK but had commando soles so you had to be more careful. Trainers are poor though

Specialized do some SPD shoes that have a full sole but an oval section that needs to be cut out with a craft knife to access the cleat bolt holes. These have the stiffness but then have a flat sole with recessed "tread" for walking/toe clips and are very comfy, mine are even lace up with a velcro tab to tidy away the knot and keep the ends out of the chain.

As little as possible, I will move on to clipless no doubt but I've only just bought the pedals I'm using and want to get some use out of them.

I run in minimal shoes so the soles are very thin and I also find the cage seems to affect the circulation in my feet as the uppers are a light mesh and after a few hours riding it's pretty sore. I just wanted a more robust but slimline shoe.

I wasn't really joking suggesting standard Northampton made.office shoes; rigid-ish soles and stiff uppers to stop the strap squeezing.

+1 on non-specialist shoes with toe clips.

I have a pair of these: http://www.lonsdale.com/lonsdale-camden-slip-mens-trainers-115106?colcode=11510690

Smooth and sufficiently stiff sole, slips nicely in and out of toe clips.

These maybe look a bit more the part for a vintage bike (but laces may snag on clips?):

Or you could by properly stylish as Profpointy above and go with a nice pair of brouges
I'd go with your first proposal, the slip-on. Some excellent suggestions here guys, thanks!
