I have also cycled through Bald Knob, though not on a time trial. Can't miss it, for the big old 110 foot cross you can see from Carbondale. Hilly old route, brings you back through Giant City. (So named for all the big stone outcrops and features, which the prosaic locals have named for different things the shapes remind them of, et cetera.) In Illinois, we also have a Woosung, and a Wynoose.
