Just to add to the excitement that is the Sunday rail system:

Network Rail have just announced that the Dover via Faversham to London Bridge service will, for one day only, be further disrupted between Rochester and Strood, between which stations there will be a replacement bus service. And the day is ... Sunday 18th September! And Southeastern don't appear to be selling the cheap advance tickets for any of the services that day. So it's £30.20 for the privilege (£19.95 with a railcard) of super off-peak singles.

Although it's probably quicker by bike between the stations than by bus, this makes pedalling to Folkestone to catch a direct train even more attractive. Advance singles from Folkestone Central to London Bridge are £10.10 (£6.65 with a railcard). Journey time about an hour and a half.

Shorter journey time (under an hour) on the high-speed train from Folkestone Central to St Pancras (and more convenient for those of us continuing north from Euston or St Pancras). No advance tickets on high-speed trains, with the super off-peaks singles being £30.20 / £19.95.

Two questions for those with local knowledge, please:

  1. Bikes on high-speed trains? Southeastern's cycle policy on their website says “You can take your bike on any of our off-peak services.” Does this apply to off-peak high-speed services (of which they make no mention in their cycle policy)?

  2. Is the recommended pedalling route from Dover to Folkestone the one that follows National Cycle Route 2? (I'm looking at you here, @mmmmartin!)
Thanks for any answers!

good effort, but you only got it half-right. there is a lot of room for improvement with regard to the glass. From Wikipedia: "The glasses used for Kölsch differ a great deal from other German beer glasses, as they are of a cylinder form and only incorporate 0.2 liters. They are called Stange (de), which translates to bar or rod. This type of glass is owed to the fact that Kölsch gets flat quicker than other beers losing its white crest very quickly, too."

It's a bit more complicated than that...

Pah. That's barely a mouthful. Good thing we're not spending more than one night there.
