Hello there,

I'd like a new rear light to see me through the winter. Mostly riding on country roads after dark, with the occasional early morning run out too.

I have a Lezyne 300XL front light, so my first thought was this Zecto drive rear: -

I am aware the Chinese copies of these are available for £5 but I'm not interested in knock offs!

Then after a bit of research I came across what looks like a cracking deal on this Moon unit: -

Just wondering if there are any others I should be considering given the type of riding I will be doing, and budget (about £25).

Thanks!

I have the Lezyne Zecto Drive- it is a great light, I've not used it through the winter yet but numerous dusk into night rides- really illuminates behind you, plenty of modes to suit your mood and a very helpful LED array on the side to show you the charge level. I bought it as a set with the front one which I can recommend as a be seen by light.

On my commuter I run a Smart R2 currently £15 on amazon- this I have run all year round and is really good. wouldn't hesitate to buy this again. Watertight, good charge length, little blue light shows you when it's starting to run out.

I use Topeak Redlite Mega - SRP is £24.99. Run on 2 AAA batteries and lasts for bloody ages (they claim 100 hours) but I don't think I changed the batteries all last winter.

Clips on a saddle bag if needed or it comes with a mount. The best bit for me though is the cover on it, I've ridden it through all sorts of crap and never had any water ingress unlike most other lights I've had - thinking about it, since I got this light it has been on a mudguarded bike so that may help a bit.

Halfords have it for less than £20.

This looks ideal as I already have a to peak saddle pack on the bike. Good price too.

This is a great light:

Simple and secure mount, very bright (75 lumens max is visible in bright sunshine), frugal (up to 24 hours on lowest pulse mode which is still very bright) and made in the UK!

Yes, I was behind a guy with one of these last winter and I was blown away by how bright it was without dazzling people. I could see him from a very long way off. I had to ask what light he was using and it was one of these. I'd highly recommend it and I think they were much more expensive than this last year, but I might be wrong.

Cygolite Hotshot is my best rear light ... they have a new one that is even brighter (Hotshot Pro 150):

I'd love a Dinotte but it's way too expensive for me:

The ones on the Aldi sale at the moment are bright. They are in fact a clone of a Moon commet which used to be around £25. I bought one last year and it took in water and died. Probably just bad luck or I forgot to close the USB charging port but for the money i don't mind replacing them.

Been using the light below for last 6 weeks or so. Bright and does the job. Got it for £3.80 but seems to have gone up. Really don't see the point in spending big money on a rear light, I'd rather have a few cheapo's and replace if necessary.http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-rear-strip-light/
