Look at the shimano r561 calipers, fitted to many ultegra groups on current bikes and you can usually pick a set up for around £20 on a popular auction site

That is surprising. I cannot think why. I know Dura Ace 7800 and 7900 aren't compatible but I never heard the 5600 and 5700 not being compatible.

I have a 5600 groupset for sale. You are correct in that 5600 and 5700 brakes are not compatible as the pull ratio is different - in real terms though they would probably work to an acceptable level!

I would split the groupset and sell you just the STI levers and calipers if you want?
