"On average, it's flat" - yeah, a ride that starts and finishes in the same place will average out as flat, but if chuffing well wasn't fooking flat.

Immediately after I lost 2 and half stones in a short space of time through illness/ hospital and was a weak sub 9st 5 foot 9 inch, a roadie was advising me I'd be better to lose weight than get a lighter bike. That felt like the worst advice from a fellow cyclist at the time ;-)
