Worst advice ever given by a fellow cyclist?

"Bike maintenance is easy: anyone can do it."

I followed that advice, read the linked article and watched the recommended YouTube video, and that's how I found myself experiencing total brake failure whilst going downhill, in the rain, wondering how on earth I was going to stop before reaching the junction...

The worst advice I was given (by an experienced cyclist, while I was a newbie) was to wear a helmet and ride a busy road, while I was not wearing a helmet and riding a shared path ^_^

You do know it's the law to fall on each MTB ride, and that means blood !

Hills seem to be a theme.

Coming up to a recent charity ride, I was told by several experienced riders that the final hill at 59 miles (4 miles before the finish) was "not steep, but it goes on a bit".
It WAS steep. Really fecking steep. I was in bottom gear the whole way, and struggling to keep the pedals turning over. They were right that it went on for quite a bit so, you know, thanks for that at least.
