How we use the active "drive" for cars, but the passive "ride" for bicycles

(yeah, I know why, because cars are analogous to carriages and cycles are analogous to horses)

When people use French words for everyday objects like water bottles.
Tights when they mean leggings or longs.

The term 'clipless pedal' made perfect sense at the time.

The term I wonder about is 'enamel paint'. Enamel is coloured glass that's been fired to fuse it. Enamel paint seems to be completely unrelated.
