Just been down to the allotment to do a bit of watering and, hooray for one of my favourite little critters. The mayfly were dancing over the black currant bushes. No pictures but a poem..

The Mayfly
By Douglas Florian

A mayfly flies
In May or June.
Its life is over
Far too soon.
A day or two
To dance,
To fly—
Hello
Hello
Good-bye
Good-bye.

We had a family of hedgehogs in the garden, used to love cat food.
Put some out at night for them, what noisy eaters

I was watching the newts in my pond today, I thought I had seen two, but today I saw 4 at the same time, and my tadpoles are just starting to get legs:

I think they are Palmate newts as they seem to have webbed feet.

A Green Woodpecker in typical pose on the edge of an urban estate, on the ground, neck looking extended, head slightly pointed up, then took off away from me, olive green back, yellow rump and red head...a beautiful bird yet slightly ungainly at the same time.
Common round here, you'll often hear their laughing call.
