I came round the bend on the Coton cycle path on Monday morning and frightened a weasel so much that he almost went pop! All 4 legs left the floor. He was off like a shot.

On the cycle path near Prudhoe on Monday. I think it's a wood mouse. It was in no hurry to move out of the way. Meandered round the path for a while, then onto the grass where it potted around a bit longer. Didn't seem at all bothered that I was so close to it.

Cape Verdean Sand Crabs...
Not my photo but you see 1/2 inch diameter holes in the sand, loads of em. Sit on the sunbed long enough and you'll see two, grain of rice sized black eyes slowly poke out....yep, everythings ok...and out they come, scurrying sideways about in the sand.
Move near them......
...they scramle for their hole, gone in a second.
One wandered too close to another......off he went like a scared rabbit. Quite comical. Apparently they swarm over the beach at nightfall.sadly we're not allowed on the beach at night...nesting turtle site.

Something very strange has been happening here lately. All the birds have been disappearing. Buzzards, red kites, crows, pheasants, blue tits, yellow hammers. You name it, its gone. All I see now is rhe occasional wren. Even the pigeons have disappeared.
