This is quite interesting. I agree with the overall sentiments of 'each to his/her own'. I look upon the image as a question: "What reason have I got for 'designing' something like we see in the picture?" I wouldn't do it like that I guess, and it prompts a thought about the mentality of decision making that goes on when one decides to embark on a mooring point through the nostrils.
The pain aspect makes me cringe anyway, as I'm a wimp...
