I'll be in both over the weekend, York more briefly than London, and want to know if there are any decent real ale pubs about?
In York it should really be in or near the Station/City Centre, and as for London, either Central or East London (don't ask) would be preferred (although I wouldn't be too adverse to traveling a bit if I have the time). Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Fizzy Europish/Lager need not apply.

Thanks.

I see The Maltings in York gets a good write up on the site I was looking at, and it is near to the Station too!
What is the opinion of this place?? Is it as good as the hype??

Just to find a Pub or three in Landan now....

Thanks.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Plenty of pubs in the City. One or two of them will even be open at the weekend.

Started young, and still going.

Barnet,
The Met Bar. (Wetherspoons) On top of Baker Street Station,
The Euston Flyer, (Fullers), Euston Road, 2mins walk from Kings Cross Station,

If you're in Euston - The Euston Tap is tiny but has a treeemndous selection - it's in the arch out front.

Good call on the Draft House Greg - there's a lovely little pub crawl you can put together round that bit of town (also the Wheatsheaf is decent)

I have a friend who's opened a pub on the outskirts of York, but I'll ask him if he recommends anything central.

The Maltings is good but gets busy as you'd expect - they used to do a good chili but I haven't been in for quite a while so maybe no longer. You could also try York's own brewery products at the 3 Legged Mare or the Last Drop, both in the city centre. http://www.york-brewery.co.uk/

and he does - sister pub to the Euston tap mentioned above is the York tap (there's also a Sheffield Tap in the wonderful people's republic of Sheffield) which does a similarly awesome selection of beers. It's right at the station.

Thanks! I drank in the pub in Euston a few years back now, the one up the stairs and overlooking the concourse whilst waiting for the sleeper one night. It was just an average run of the mill pub but it did the job at the time.

Well, it was, except that it had a resident mouse who was seen running about every so often (they do have mice on the Unerground just below, so it isn't too much of a coincidence I suppose).

Incidentally, these pubs are only if I have spare time, I'm not a raging alcoholic or anything.
