Any lighting experts around?

I'd like to replace the fluorescents in my shop with something far more energy efficient. I've been looking at LED, the complete fittings are pretty expensive with what appears to be a decent output, I've also seen replacement tubes with LEDs which you replace existing fluorescent tubes with.
Does anybody have a bit of experience or knowledge they could share with me so I can get an idea if it's worthwhile doing and also what would be the best way to go about it.

I have installed a lot of LED lights in factories replacing fluorescents and high bays. I personally don't like the light from them and would hate to have them in an office. The light is very blue/ cold and very directional.
