Bar ends

Hi
This may be a stupid question but if I purchase a set of bar ends can I just fit them onto the ends of my handle bars?
Would they fit over the grips or would I need to cut the grips back?
Is there anything else I should be aware about?
I have a Scott P3 hybrid

You will need to move everything inboard by an inch to leave room for the bar end mounts. Depending on which bar ends you get, as well as which grips you have, you will need to make sure the bars are plugged when you have finished. The grips on the stock photos of your bike look like you will need to remove them, cut the ends so that they will fit back onto the bars leaving the last inch free to mount the new bar ends, then fit bar plugs.

In addition to what Cubist said, some bars shouldn't be used with bar ends at all. Some must be used with alloy plugs. Especially carbon bars.
