Blimey! I worked in a bike factory called Comrade Cycles in Darlaston in the late 70s where they built some really crap bikes, Brown Brothers, Vindec, I'm sure Elswick Hopper was one, they were racing bikes if I recall. They were thrown together; really rubbish quality. I used to tape the handlebars and I know now that I taped thousands the wrong way, starting from the inside. Oh well.

Old Elswicks were certainly not rubbish, but very high quality machines.

Is this book available anywhere? I wouldn't mind a read.

As TBM has said, the Elswick Hopper of old bear no relationship to the Hoppers of modern times. The original company was founded in 1880 and made some very high quality machines.

Just to bump this up, I contacted the publisher who passed me on to the author, so have a copy on it's way to me after sending a cheque (£22.41 incl. postage) as payment. If anyone wants to order a copy, PM me and I'll pass on the details.
