Excuse the non technical description, but an iced, marzipaned heavy fruit cake the wife just made for my parents 60th Wedding Anniversary....£150

Bloody hell, i had no idea.
20 eggs, 1/2 a bottle of brandy, all the usual ingredients.
Was it always expensive ? Fruit, marzipan, icing, it all seemed so expensive (granted, some of it did come from a specialist bakers so you expect to pay).
Some bits like the edible display of flowers and anniversary message, frill, moulding cutters etc, you dont expect them to be cheap so fair do's.

Have i led a sheltered life re baking ?...or was it always expensive.
How the hell much does it cost to have a big wedding cake made if thats the case...i dread to think.
