cassette/ hub

Hello, I am re-vamping my old trusty steed. At present I have a 7 speed shimano cassette on it (from when I was young!) I am attempting to change it to a 10 speed (I have new STI levers) Unfortunately I can only get 9 of the sprockets to fit on the hub. Can I run it with my 10 speed levers and restrict the travel or do I need a new hub or lever? The hub is;Shimano 105 FH-1055. Thanks

You can restrict it to the 9 speeds.

If you want the 10, you'll need a newer set of wheels (the cassette hubs will take anything from 7-10 speed - so long as you use the correct spacers).

Thanks Fossyant, I have taken off the smallest sprocket and the cassette is now a little loose, can I get spacers to make it nice and secure?

Have you checked that your existing chain is compatible?
