i am finding that in the highest gears, i get for about a quarter rotation of the cranks gears slipping.
this makes me think it is neither chain or cassette as would it not slip on all gears? or is it now slipping on those as i use them irregularly and it has worn in both cassette and chain together?

so start with a new chain or go for a cassette and chain replacement?

sounds similar to a problem I had a while back. After changing cassette & chain, the problem was still there. It turned out to be the free hub

    I would go for Freehub...

Its the torque in the higher gears that is the giveaway sign
