Hi there, this is my first post and I am kind of new to all this so please be patient with me. Ok so a work coleague and I decided to go out for a nice Sunday morning cycle ride a couple of months ago. By the time we had done twenty miles we had come to the conclusion that we should organize a charity ride. After two months we have now been joined by another six people, we are all of different levels of fitness and we are going to cover 200+ miles over 3 days. We have set out a route which seems pretty straight forward. Our problem now is knowing what spares we need to carry in the support vehicle and also sorting out a good training programme. Currently we are covering between thirty to forty miles a couple of times a week, will this be enough? if not can anyone suggest a better format please? We have planned to cycle for eight hours per day, consisting of two four hour stints with a break around lunch. As i said we are all different levels of fitness and this is the first time any of us have cycled a major distance so any help or advice would be greatly apreciated. Many thanks in advance.

The "training" at 30/40 miles seems fine - 200 miles over 3 days is only about 70 per day.

Just take the ride days as they come - time/distance covered will be affected by the terrain and weather - as long as you reach the destination it doesn't matter when you stop .. BUT you will need to take on liquid and food (jacket potato & baked beans works wonders)

Why do you need a "support vehicle" ???

"Spares" what do you usually take on your training rides? - assuming bikes are in good running order just a multi-tool in case anything comes loose and a couple of spare tubes (+ pump!) should be OK.

... and which charity are you aiming to raise money for ... and what's the target £ ?
