There are a whole load of base layers by some company called "Tenn outdoors" going on Amazon for 9 or 10 quid a throw instead of the normal 25+ quid you see around. Has anyone ever tried them? Are they OK?

I don't know about those, but I might give one of these a go on Thursday...

Will be handy for horse riding in winter even if they're no good for cycling.

I bought the 'long johns' here about a month ago, and they are not all that good for cycling. If you get them, you need a larger size (e.g. large instead of medium) and don't expect them to keep you very warm even though they are made of the right wicking fabrics.

I got two of those last year, they're lovely and toastie under a thick jacket down to about three to four degrees.

If mine weren't still going strong I'd be down to Lidl this Thursday, and they were only a tenner last year.

have u tried odlo?
they are pretty good for cycling

Odlo is nice - but not at all cheap.

I still think HH Lifa Sport or Lifa Dry is as good as you can get.
Very light, stretchy but not "clingy", excellent wicking, dries incredibly quickly if it does get wet.

I have 20+ of the Decathlon ones - about £5 each, plus some long sleeved ones for a couple of quid more.

However I am now a convert to the merits of Merino wool. Much more pricey, but much better in every way

I got an Endura BaaBaa merino wool BL last week and it is very nice.

To test out the anti-pongyness of merino, I've now gone 2 commutes and a 20 miler without washing it and it still doesn't smell (too bad) and I sweat a lot.

My HH would last one commute before going in the washine machine.

Well worth the £30.

For cheap base layers you cannot beat previous seasons football shirts. I bought last years england shirt for £5. Its a high-tec piece of kit too!

There must be plenty of Scotland shirts going cheap! <pedals away really, really fast>
