Chris Boardman 1 hr record

I was in the new Liverpool Museum today and the had Chris's bike on which he broke the 1 hr record

and a section of the track on display.

It was high up on the wall, so you couldn't get it Not sure how it was actually fixed though.

I'd never notice the 'wings' on these bikes before. I assume they're for down-force?

i'd imagine that the 'wings' are actually hand holds for use when grinding the bike up to speed, before settling into an aero position.

That bike was the one used in the superman position, which is now banned. There are many time trial bike using those style wing bars in use, they are more aero dynamic than normal bars. later when he did the record on a normal bike I think he rode a 52x14.

I have worked out what the front wings are for.

You dont need panniers, you can just hang a couple of tesco bags from the front wings.

That makes complete sense. Just be sure and balance your bags evenly.
