Yep - online is the way to go, IMO. Certainly for stuff you don't need to try on or see before buying.

At Boots you can order on line and get them to delivery it. Yes I know you pay a delivery charge, but that saves on time, patience, parking

If you are buying for older ladies, like Mother's or Grandmas, try Marks and Spencer, free delivery over a certain amount.
I cannot bear to be in the crowded shops at this time of year. So I use the above and local small shops, much less hassle. If I am stuck for what to buy people, I fall back (as it were) on a Bottle of something of Alcohol, or large tin of biscuits (like Fox's) or luxury chocolates.
