Well, I was asked to do the cycling in sailing, running and cycling event at the weekend up the Clyde. The Fri cycle went well as it was mostly on road. The sat cycle was a short but more difficult cross country course. I was in 2nd place, and catching when the front wheel stopped on a rut. I was propelled over the bars onto my left shoulder. A GP was on of the yachts, and she diagnosed a broken collar bone. It was too far to travel to hospital, so I stayed till Sun with the fleet. So finally got to A&E yesterday.

So no race on Mon, no Etape, and most annoyingly; my new Kinesis arrives in 3 weeks and I will be riding it. Not good.

As I said in the etape thread. Bu%%er!

You will be on that Kinesis before you know it.

So, as an aside, what components are you adding to the frame? And did you mention my name to Neil so I get my commission...;)

I could not remember your real name. I was chatting to Neil about you and your recommend. ;)
I am having the 105 kit and wheels taken off my old Ribble, and have just ordered some new long drop Shimano 650 brakes. I have some good qual bars in the attic and am on the lookout for a reasonably priced seatpost.

No worries, I somehow think commission would be limited anyway! ;)

Be sure and post a pic when you get it. It's something to look forward to when you heal.

Teh suck, indeed. I dislocated my collarbone at the sternum last summer (hit by a car). As Mort says, it's all the muscles and soft tissue that really matter from the recuperation point of view.

That said, I didn't do any "official" physio: I started trying to move it around pretty much as soon as I could (also used heat packs to stimulate blood flow) and by the time the referral to NHS physio had come through I had pretty much complete range of motion anyway and was onto pressups to strengthen it

Yes, I am picking up a few comments on physio. I am lucky that I will get a referral to a physio through work. I meeting my physio next week to discuss options and work out when I can start. Apparently the shoulder can seize up if it is not used,

Sorry to hear about your collar bone(Clavicle) as I metioned in my post yesterday, I Broke mine on the 19th of April, it's now developing into just a dull ache, I am able to drive, and do very light stuff workwise(started today).
I will be out with my team mates this Sunday hopefully.
I ditched the sling after a week as I found it less painfull without it.
So hang in there you will be back on the bike again before you know it

Yes, I believe they were - married couple of GPs. I did not get their name - yacht was Lady Q.

I think bilslands will keep it safe and well - thanks for the offer:smile:

Good to here aint. My visit to hosp today has worried me slightly. It seems that there are 2 breaks at the outer end of the clavicle and the doc wants me to see a specialist on Fri, as it may need pinning. Poo and more poo

Did mine in on an Exodus trip in Andalucia a few years ago (as well as a cracked rib) That`ll teach me to look where I`m going! The 2 hour transfer to a hospital over bad roads was fairly rough. However the hospital in Villa Martin was superb. Spent the remainder of the week in the support vehicle.

Hope yours heals well....I`ve got a bit of a bump where mine glued itself back together, a tiny bit of restricted/uncomfortable movement too. As for the rib, I`d broken that one before....I could get out of bed without wincing after 5 or 6 weeks.
