I have never been to one, I don't think from what I have heard it would be my thing. I might be wrong. Seems a bit too 'militant' without making a positive difference for me...

obviously having only been on this one i'm not in much of a postion to comment; but i would say that only a small minority (less than 5%) of the people there were out to actually cause trouble. from what i saw the vast majority were there just to have fun, cycling around london, and when the minority took it too far they were denounced by the rest.

The only critical mass I might be interested in is one where the men of cloth get what for after being found out abusing their position of trust.
A very critical condition...

But pleased that you woke up in time my friend and enjoyed London in the daylight!
Mind your tyres on those nasty streets too - or were you just there for the pose? :becool:

We both lost our CM virginities today...didn't see this before I posted :becool:

I'd agree. Very few people actually went to start arguments. It was quite entertaining when drivers got out to mouth of (rather than just be patient). A bit like playground banter.

I can completely understand why drivers would get annoyed with the mass, but there were some right idiots who went out of their way to be aggressive and to vent their frustration, rather than just take the higher moral ground.

It's when people started driving into cyclists/honking cyclists, when the police were next to them, just seemed a bit stupid.

I'd say everyone else I spoke to did it for fun, but I think most people enjoyed having a bit of "banter" when out.

The G Wizz that got let through was quite funny.

The Mcr one looks pretty peaceful - they usually post vids on you-tube. Were you two in full lycra, as the Mcr ones look mainly like students and the 'odd commuter' - a distinct lack of lycra boys/girls.

I definitely saw you and Radius then!! I remember his bike, as the messenger next to me was saying how he didn't like those sort of wheels...and thinking about it I remember an Allez rider with baggy shorts on! It's sad what little details I can remember sometimes.

I was about 3 meters away from you, next to the road.

I was in lycra with a plain cycling top on...I wasn't sooo vain, that I deliberately wore different shorts ;). I'd cycled to work in the morning so wanted them then anyway. I didn't feel judged

Did you get a leaflet for the naked bike ride? Think I'll pass on that

that gives me scary mental pictures, I wonder how much they'd pay me not to turn up?

I was with the crowd of skaters waiting at Hyde Park Corner when the mass decided to stop and block the road while crossing into Hyde Park. Nobody I spoke to was particularly impressed by that, and it took ten minutes after they'd all gone for traffic to return to anything approaching normal

If you want to "have fun cycling around London", that's cool, so do I. But how is your fun enhanced when the people you are cycling with pull stupid stunts like that?

I saw a guy on a mountain bike mouth "you sad c.....s" to his mate as we went past.

It made me laugh, one cyclist, started fussing that car drivers didn't make it better for themselves and were causing congestion by the way they overtook the mass....I just told him I don't think we can talk - considering they overtook and were being patient. Some people on it just fussed too much about things.

I'm not saying I didn't stop in stupid places along with others, but I moved along after we started to get yelled at by Mr Plod.

I think, stopping the traffic to let everyone past does make sense. May as well keep them all together. We got a police escort through Barcelona when there was a group of 60, never mind a group of how ever many hundred....but just stopping and chatting in places is going to aggravate people.

Still had a good time though.

Having said that, I got past all the skaters right at the beginning, so didn't see how it unfolded!
