England : Lincolnshire Cycling routes west of Lincoln

Does anyone have experience of the national cycle routes to the west of Lincoln? According to maps, there is a route out of the city centre along a canal, then taking the route of an old railway line, then left through villages Harby, Eagle etc. Is this route suitable for a road bike? I aim to cycle from Lincoln into Nottinghamshire and back as part of a 5 counties challenge (for Sport Relief).

Route is Tarmac to harby. From harby to the river trent its crushed, compact gravel.

If you were leaving the cycle path at harby there's lots of nice cycling through villages such as Wigsley in the Newark direction. All quiet lanes.
