I've had enough of seeing cyclists jump red lights. It's so irresponsible and paints a really ugly picture of us cyclists.

Yesterday I was walking past a set of traffic lights and I witnessed a cycling postman.. a bloody postman! jump a red light. It was unbelievable, he barely even looked to see if any cars were coming. I know Royal Mail are trying to improve the speed of their services, but there's not need to cut corners like that. Next thing it'll be cycling policeman!

http://g.co/maps/bsbqw it happened here but without the roadworks.

I'm not sure what can be done to stop people from doing this, other than perhaps reporting people to the police when they do it and always ensuring you have a camera on your bike etc...

I'm not sold on the idea that greater enforcement of the law though is going to stop this, the police resources are stretched enough without having to deal with this in my opinion. Plus fines are on the most part a bit divisive as a tool, although I do think they might act as a deterrent in this case.

Saw it a couple of years ago. A PCSO in Bristol. Sent an email to Avon & Somerset constabulary, got a very apologetic one back which also said the matter had been discussed with the officer who had agreed not to do it again.

Suggest you do exactly the same with Royal Mail. If you don't have identification just where and when should do.

Frustrating as it is, you'll never stop it - much like speeding in motor vehicles - you can catch and punish a few, but you can't "cure" it.

The government could stop or even vastly reduce motor vehicles speeding if they really wanted too but they do not have the balls to take on the motoring lobby.

Funnily enough.I am sure RM is phasing out cycle deliverys. It's two or three posties to each van.Letters packets and upto a certain size in larger packets.I don't think a cycle can carry enough mail to generate use.I may be wrong,no doubt someone will correct me.

He agreed!! What did they offer him a pay rise if he wasn't a naughty boy?

Personally I think it's a good thing and do it all the time.

Most people get annoyed simply because they are stuck in the rat race queue - if they stopped to think how quicker everything flows from cyclists nipping over on red they might think differently.

Most red lights I stop at but if nothing is crossing/coming and perfectly safe to carry on I do so, I believe it much safer to keep moving then have to be beside a car, bus or lorry stationary waiting to set off again.

I don't agree with RLJ, but I think it gets blown out of all proportion by people who are just looking for excuses to bash (metaphorically, hopefully!) cyclists.

If you end up sharing a lane with car, bus or lorry at the lights you have made a mistake and should modify your riding - see cyclecraft.

Arrive first = stop in centre of lane at head of queue

Arrive later = never pass large vehicle on the left, Stop in the queue in the middle of the lane well behind any large vehicle
